Former Saint John talk show host bracing for Leslie

ST JOHN’S, N.L.- A long time Saint John broadcaster and former talk show host on Rogers Radio is among those preparing for the arrival of tropical storm Leslie.

The Canadian Hurricane Centre says Leslie could strengthen into a hurricane by the time it reaches Newfoundland and Labrador tomorrow.

Tom Young, former host of “The Afternoon News”, is now retired and living in St. John’s.

He tells us he’s preparing his property for the arrival of Leslie.”We’ve got stuff on our back deck and that’s all going to be put under the deck”, says Young. “The kids toys, who live next door, they’re in the yard so either we’ll move them or the wind will. There are three or four other things and we’ll just take them and put them under the deck. There’s not much else you can do”.

The storm is expected to make landfall tomorrow somewhere near the Burin Peninsula.
