Car swallowed by Dartmouth construction site

A car driving through a marked Dartmouth construction site Sunday night was swallowed up by a large hole.

Halifax Regional Police say it happened in the 600 block of Windmill Road just before 7 p.m.

“Traffic pylons were in place, but there may have been an excessive gap where the driver mistakenly entered the construction zone,” explained Sgt. Greg Robertson.

The Department of Labour was notified and the hole has since been filled.

The fire department and police responded. The 79-year-old driver had to be removed from the vehicle through the windshield because the hole prevented the doors from being opened.

The driver was taken to Dartmouth General, but released soon after.
