Police have ruled out potential danger after a suspicious letter to Mayor Peter Kelly was delivered to municipal offices downtown.
The letter was opened by a staff member who then called in police.
Mayor Kelly says he never actually saw it.
“The third floor of Duke Tower over in Scotia Square received a letter. They opened it up, I guess it was addressed to me so they called the police,” he said.
“They came down and picked up the correspondence. I guess it was police worthy. It’s under investigation and that’s all I know.”
Cst. Brian Palmeter with Halifax Regional Police says the letter-writer made no sense with his note. He did not name anyone, and no specific threat was made. Palmeter says it came from out of province and they’re now trying to contact the individual.
The mayor has received no special security as a result of the letter.
