Sewage treatment plant now processing raw sewage

The “real deal” is now flowing through the Halifax sewage treatment plant.

After tests with regular water the system has begun handling sewage.

Harbour Solutions spokesman James Campbell tells Metro News everything seems to be going fine.

He says they want to be sure the advanced primary treatment system is stable and working before adding an ultraviolet light disinfection system.

It will take another week or two before it’s operating at 100 per cent.

Campbell says at this point they’re scheduling to open up the beaches on June 30th.
