A Halifax convenience store owner says banning flavoured cigarillos is more of a public relations exercise than anything else.
Sid Chedrawe says theirs is one of the most over-regulated industries in the country. And while they don’t disagree with many of them, this one doesn’t make sense.
“I really can’t see what benefit there is for the public and for the government,” he said. “Other than giving them good P.R. for rapping the tobacco industry again.”
Meg McCallum with the Canadian Cancer Society says they fought to have the products pulled from shelves because the flavoured smokes are aimed at youth.
She says they are delighted the ban is in place to keep high school students from trying them.
