Nova Scotia Power is lending some assistance to storm-torn Connecticut today.
About 10 crews including power line technicians and supervisors have left for the state this morning to help with thousands of outages as post-tropical storm Sandy continues to roll over Canada and the United States.
“It has to geographically make sense,” says NSPI’s Neera Ritcy. “The travel time has to be reasonable as well, as if we need to draw on our crews for them to come back if any need arises at home here, that it needs to be reasonable.”
NSP says it is confident it has retained enough people and resources to deal with any local outages.
Connecticut Light and Power estimated more than half a million customers were without power at the height of the storm.
“Very high winds across the state, tree damage across most of the state,” said the utility’s Mitch Gross. “Flooding, storm surge along the shoreline. As expected, the storm was slow-moving and very large and a lot of damage across the state as many of us expected.”
Local crews are currently trying to restore power after overnight thunder storms and strong winds knocked out power in Shelburne, Caledonia, Liverpool and Yarmouth.
