Man charged with sexual assault in Halifax apartment building

A man is facing charges after a weekend sexual assault inside a Halifax apartment building.
Halifax Regional Police were called to Brunswick Street at around 5:30 a.m. Sunday.
They say a man sexually assaulted a woman in a common area of the building.
The victim didn't know the suspect, who was arrested at the scene.
Mykhailo Bielinskyi, 23, was scheduled to appear in Halifax Provincial Court yesterday to face the following charges:
- Sexual assault
- Assault causing bodily harm
- Choking to overcome resistance
- Uttering threats
- Mischief
- Forcible confinement
“It is important for victims of sexual assault to know that we are here to help,” said HRP in a news release.
“As part of our victim-centered, trauma-informed approach to sexualized violence, we work closely with victims and ensure their privacy is upheld and well-being is fully considered,” police added. “We encourage anyone who has been sexually assaulted or harassed to reach out to police.”
