Extensive investigation into numerous break and enters results in three arrests

Three people are facing a combined 47 charges after numerous reported break and enters in Halifax, Hants and Lunenburg counties.
RCMP say more than 100 thefts of items with an estimated value of over $500,000 were reported stolen, including a vehicle, speed boat, trailer, tires and power tools.
Investigators searched a business in Halifax and a home in Hubbards where they say they found and seized several items that had been reported missing following break-ins.
“Throughout the past eight months, RCMP investigators were able to draw upon a number of resources and experts to bring this investigation to a successful conclusion,” said Insp. Rob Bell in a news release. “By charging those responsible we have stopped a break and enter crime spree affecting numerous communities in Nova Scotia.”
“Every day citizens report thefts and suspicious activity to police and I want to acknowledge that throughout this investigation, these calls greatly assisted our investigators.”
Nicholas John Mitchell, 39, of Hubbards, has been charged with the following:
- 11 counts of break and enter
- 6 counts mischief
- 6 counts of trespassing at night
- 1 count of possession of break-in instruments
- 5 counts of theft
- 10 counts of possession of stolen property
Mitchell has been remanded and is scheduled to appear at Halifax Provincial Court on December 3, 2018, Windsor Provincial Court on December 11, 2018 and Lunenburg Provincial Court on December 19, 2018.
Darlene Marie MacAulay, 46, of Tantallon, has been charged with the following:
- 1 count of mischief
- 4 counts of theft
- 1 count of possession of stolen property
MacAulay has been released on a recognizance and is scheduled to appear in Lunenburg Provincial Court on January 9, 2019 and Halifax Provincial Court on February 14, 2019.
Andrew Stewart Ritchie, 42, of Hatchett Lake has been charged with the following:
- Two counts of possession of stolen property
Ritchie is scheduled to appear for a first appearance in Halifax Provincial Court on February 12, 2019.
