Halifax District RCMP say a quick-thinking witness helped them track down a suspect after break-ins at local businesses.
Mounties were called to Middle Sackville at 1:30 a.m. on Thursday, March 28 after an alarm went off at a Sackville Dr. business.
When officers arrived they found the front door's glass had been smashed and lottery tickets and cigarettes had been stolen.
The business was closed at the time, but security footage showed a lone man was involved in the incident.
At 3:15 a.m. on Tuesday, April 2, another alarm was triggered at a Sackville Dr. business in Lower Sackville.
Again, officers found the front door's glass smashed and missing lottery tickets.
Surveillance video appeared to show the same suspect was responsible for both break-ins.
At 2:30 p.m. Tuesday, police were told a man had tried to cash in stolen lottery tickets at an Enfield business.
He was seen leaving in a vehicle with a woman in the passenger seat.
A witness was able to provide a description of both the man and vehicle, along with the licence plate number and direction of travel, to investigators.
Police say the man's description matched the suspect recorded on security footage at the other two crime scenes.
They tracked down the suspect vehicle at an Elmsdale business less than 15 minutes later.
In addition to the two break-ins on Sackville Dr., David John Campbell, 44, has also been charged with four break-and-enters in Halifax Regional Police jurisdiction.
The woman in the passenger seat at the time of his arrest has been charged with possession of property obtained by crime.
