Company aims to give Nova Scotians a choice for renewable energy

It's not yet a done deal, but Nova Scotia's Utility and Review Board has handed out the first retail supplier license to sell renewable electricity.

The UARB made the decision last week, challenging Nova Scotia Power's renewable electricity monopoly.

Managing director of Roswall Development Daniel Roscoe says while hurdles remain, his company obtaining the license is a first step in providing Nova Scotians with a choice.

“We have done enough work to realize we can provide a competitive and clean and stable product to our electricity customers, but the end results still needs to be defined,” Roscoe said. “This is a big development, this first phase of wind will sell millions of dollars of electricity.”

Roscoe calls it an important tool in accelerating the province's transition to a green economy.
