Heat warning issued for Halifax area

By Meghan Groff

A heat warning has been issued for mainland Nova Scotia, including the Halifax area.

Environment Canada says to expect very warm and humid weather Thursday through Sunday.

As of Wednesday afternoon, the daytime high for Halifax is forecast to be 30 degrees on Thursday, Friday and Saturday, and only slightly lower at 29 on Sunday, except along parts of the coast where it will be cooler.

The humidex is expected to range between 34 and 38.

And not much relief is expected in the overnight hours with an expected low of 18 in that time period.

Environment Canada says the conditions could elevate the risk of heat illnesses, such as heat stroke or heat exhaustion.

“Reduce your heat risk,” it recommends. “Schedule outdoor activities during the coolest parts of the day.”
