The Mooseheads travelled up to the Centre Régional K.C. Irving for the first in a home-and-home series to take on the Acadie-Bathurst Titan for the first time since the Titan swept the Herd in the first round of last years playoffs.
It wouldn’t take the Mooseheads long to open the scoring, Shawn Carrier would deflect in his team leading 5th goal of the season 1:22 into the first period off Lincoln Waugh’s slapshot from the point. Waugh and Liam Kilfoil would be credited for the assists.
Bathurst responded three minutes later as Dawson Sharkey would send one past Mattis Rousseau off the feed from Colby Huggan.
At the beginning of the 2nd period, Mooseheads forward Antoine Fontaine would head to the penalty box after a rare equipment violation call for playing with a broken stick. Colby Huggan would break the tie for the Titan 15:57 into the second period after batting the puck out of the air and into Mooseheads net off the rebound of Dawson Sharkey’s shot.
The goal would be reviewed for a possible high stick but was quickly allowed as Acadie-Bathurst would enter the 2nd intermission with a 2-1 lead.
Noah Laberge would add onto the Titan lead 10:11 into the third period, sending the insurance marker through traffic. Dawson Sharkey would add his third point as an assist, Tyson Goguen would be credited for the secondary assist. The Mooseheads pulled Rousseau with about 2 minutes left in the game and were immediately punished as Blake Pilgrim-Edwards sent one down the ice and right into the empty net giving the Titan a 4-1 lead.
The Onslaught would continue as Mathieu St-Onge would turn on the jets to burst up the ice and rip one past Rousseau on the breakaway making the score 5-1 and that is how the contest would end.
With the loss the Mooseheads record fell to 5-3 on the season and Bathurst record improved to 5-3.
Halifax will be welcoming the Titan Friday night at the Scotiabank Centre. Puck drop is at 7:00 p.m.
