More than $50,000 raised online to support family of woman who died at Halifax Walmart

By Steve Gow

A GoFundMe page has now been set up for the young woman who died at a Walmart store in Halifax on Oct. 19.

Organized by the Maritime Sikh Society Executive, the page is intended to raise funds to help support the family of the 19-year-old woman.

More than $53,000 had been raised as of early Thursday morning on the fundraising platform with the “entirety of the funds” to go directly to the bereaved family.

The Walmart employee was found dead in a walk-in oven in the bakery department of the store located on Mumford Road late Saturday night.

Police have not released many details as they investigate, including the woman’s name.

The Maritime Sikh Society says she came to Canada with her mother about two years ago and worked at the Walmart store.
