Halifax West High School placed into hold and secure after weapons call

Halifax Regional Police (HRP) had a large presence near a Clayton Park high school Friday morning.

HRP spokesperson Marla McInnis said officers responded to a weapons call on Thomas Raddall Drive as classes were underway and took a suspect into custody at the scene.

Halifax West High School was placed into a hold and secure, but officials said the school itself was secure, and classes continued as usual. The hold and secure was lifted at about 11:15 a.m., a spokesperson said.

Police said there is no threat to public safety, but they expected to have several officers in the area as part of the investigation.

The suspect’s identity was not released, but more information was expected to be released Friday afternoon.
