Province launches fund for agriculture, seafood projects

The provincial government says a new fund will aim to support “big and bold” projects in the agriculture and seafood sector.

The government says it is spending $4.7 million on the Nova Scotia Seafood and Agriculture Strategic Investment Fund. The new fund will go toward supporting companies proposing large-scale projects, including things like bringing in new technologies or finding new markets for products.

“This fund is about supporting the people who bring new ideas to grow our economy and help businesses,” Greg Morrow, Minister of Agriculture, said in a press release. “Agriculture and seafood are important traditional industries in our province. But we can’t keep doing things the same old way – we need to support fresh thinking and innovation.”

The government says projects supported through the fund must be finished by January of 2027.

The fund is being managed by Perennia, on of the province’s development agencies.
