Five things to watch for in the Canadian business world in the coming week:
Clean energy plan
Prime Minister Mark Carney is expected to announce the federal government’s clean energy strategy this week. The Liberals have been promising a plan to more than double the amount of power Canada generates, largely through “clean” sources.
GDP report
Statistics Canada will release its gross domestic product figures for January on Tuesday morning. The agency’s preliminary estimate released in February suggested real GDP was essentially unchanged in January.
Groupe Dynamite results
Groupe Dynamite Inc. will release its fourth-quarter results on Wednesday morning before markets open. The Montreal-based retailer behind the Garage and Dynamite clothing stores opened its first store in the United Kingdom in March.
Bank of Canada
The Bank of Canada is set to release its summary of deliberations for its most recent rate decision on Wednesday. The central bank kept is policy interest rate on hold at 2.25 per cent on March 18 as it said the war in the Middle East has increased volatility in energy prices and financial markets, and heightened the risks to the global economy.
Trade figures
Statistics Canada will release its merchandise trade figures for February on Thursday. Canada posted a merchandise trade deficit of $3.6 billion in January as exports fell 4.7 per cent and imports declined 1.1 per cent.
