Nova Scotia’s Highway 103 was closed for more than an hour Saturday afternoon because of a single vehicle accident at the on-ramp of Exit 3A.
Police say the crash happened Saturday afternoon just after two o’clock near the Timberlea Exit. A 23-year old woman was taken to the Queen Elizabeth II Health Sciences Center with serious injuries.
Police say she failed to negotiate the on-ramp in her vehicle. The car drove onto the shoulder and that caused it to swerve and then roll over two times.
Officers say the woman was partially ejected from the vehicle. The accident is still under investigation and the woman’s condition isn’t known at this time.
And earlier in the day, police officers and a canine unit were able to track down and arrest two suspects in connection with a break and enter at the Moosehead Cold Beer Store in Dartmouth.
A tipster called police to report seeing two people climbing into the Windmill Road store through a broken window. That was around 5 a.m. Saturday. And the witness gave officers a description of a vehicle including a license plate number.
Police say they caught up with the suspects on Windmill Drive. They sped off and ended up ditching the vehicle on Trinity Avenue. A K-9 unit was called in and police were able to track down the two men and arrest them.
A 30-year old and 19-year old from the Dartmouth area are facing charges of Break and Enter along with Theft of a Vehicle. It turns out they had stolen their ride from a Dartmouth residence earlier in the night.
And as it turns out, Mayor Peter Kelly got a first hand look at the excitement. He tells the Chronicle Herald he was on a police ride-along Friday night into Saturday morning. And the car he was in was dispatched to the Moosehead break in.
“The night was a busy night,” the mayor told the newspaper. “It was an opportunity that I wanted to do,. to spend some time and see some of the challenges our police officers go through.”
