IWK set to get new generator with help from province

The IWK Health Centre is receiving an electrical boost from the Dexter government.

The province will be providing financial support to enhance the IWK’s emergency power supplies, including a new generator which was high on IWK’s list of needs.

Alan Horsbourgh, the vice-president and chief financial officer at the IWK, said the current backup generator is maintained well and is tested weekly.

“To make sure if the power goes out it is still functional, and it is, so there’s no disruption to service and no reason for the public to be concerned about brining their family here, everything with the old one is working fine,” he said.

But just like a car it was time to upgrade it.

“It’s over 30 years old and like anything that age, it’s time to replace it,” explained Horsbourgh.

In addition to the generator, the upgrades will also include a new transformer.
