Snowstorm doesn’t deter student protesters calling for lower tuition

The Groundhog Day blizzard couldn’t stop a student protest that saw hundreds of people gather outside province house.
They gathered in the snow to rally against a three per cent tuition hike which will cost the average student in this province about $150 a year.
These students say they won’t stand for it.
“I believe that university education should be completely free for everyone,” said one student.
“Not giving people access to higher education limits Canada as a country,” said another.
A Mount Saint Vincent cultural studies major says some are profiting from student debt.
“The deregulation of how much money students can take out means more profit for the banks,” he said. “That’s more interest [students] will accumulate over time and have to pay off.
Another student says having a smart workforce is an economic driver and said it’s in government’s interest to make higher education more accessible.
