Andrew Krystal, former CityNews Halifax talk show host, dies

By Dan Ahlstrand

Andrew Krystal has passed away.

The former Halifax radio talk show host died Sunday in Toronto.

Krystal started his broadcast career in Toronto before moving to Halifax to help launch what was News 95.7 in 2005.

He and Maritime Morning became a very popular part of the fledgling station as his beloved “Krystal Nation” grew.

Krystal joined The Todd Veinotte Show in November of 2020, where he discussed his role as a talk show host.

“We approach journalism, but we're not journalists. Ultimately we are entertainers,” he stated. “I do the best I can. You don't go on and be mean to everybody, but you can't go on always kissing up, there has to be a range.”

“You're compassionate, you're aggressive, you're understanding, you're insightful. Hopefully you're prepared, you're intelligent and you're well read. Those are important things.”

In July of 2010, Krystal left Halifax and returned to Toronto where he was heard on Sportsnet The Fan 590 and seen on CityNews Toronto.

From there he continued in talk radio with a show on SiriusXM, and also formed his own communications company.

Funeral details have not yet been released.
