Andy Fillmore re-elected in Halifax

The Canadian Press has declared Andy Fillmore as the winner in Halifax.

Speaking from his campaign headquarters on Quinpool Road, Fillmore told NEWS 95.7's election panel he couldn't have done it without the volunteers who helped knock on thousands of doors.

“We had our head down, we were running hard and we were running fast,” he said. “We were running on a record but we were also running on a promise to do more for Halifax and ultimately the Haligonians responded to that.”

“I'm just so grateful to my constituents and my team who have just given their hearts over the last 40 days. It's been actually incredible.”

Fillmore was first elected MP of Halifax when the Liberals swept Atlantic Canada in 2015. It was the first time since 1997 an NDP candidate didn't win the riding.

As of 1:25 a.m. with 195 of 201 polls reporting, Fillmore has 21,516 votes, which is 42.54 per cent of the vote.

The NDP's Christine Saulnier has 15,454, the Green Party's Jo-Ann Roberts has 7,028, the Conservative's Bruce Holland has 5,822.

The People's Party of Canada candidate Duncan McGenn has 585 votes and  Animal Protection Party of Canada's Bill Wilson has 208 votes.
