Bull Riders Canada touts safety ahead of controversial event in Halifax

By Alex Cooke

Professional Bull Riders Canada is coming to Halifax for an event in May, but some social media users are decrying the event, saying it's a form of animal cruelty.

The organization says that's not the case.

There's a petition that's garnered over 20,000 signatures called ban the barbaric bull-riding event in Halifax.

But it's not barbaric, according to experienced bullrider Casey Lane.

He says the organization does all it can to ensure safety for everyone involved.

“Our staff that handle the bulls at the events take the utmost care and caution to provide the safest environment for the animal and rider,” said Lane. “As a general rule it's a lot safer for the animal than it is for the rider.”

The association will be at the Scotiabank Centre in Halifax at the end of May for the controversial event.
