Canex warns customers after ‘malicious’ website attack

By CityNews Halifax Staff

Canex is recommending members of the military change passwords and contact credit card providers after a 'malicious attack' on its website last month.

The attack on canex.ca happened between Nov. 14 and Nov. 18.

“Additionally, if you were on the CANEX.ca site and opened a checkout window, entered a credit card number but abandoned the transaction before paying, please inform us immediately so we can issue you a new CFOne card,” it says in an online statement.

Canex says, when it learned of the breach, the website was shutdown to assess and remediate the situation. It's back online now.

“We are very disappointed that this happened and are committed to doing everything we can to make certain it doesn't happen again,” it says. “We've taken further steps to improve our procedures and will continue to build even more robust security systems. We will continue to diligently work with our affected customers to mitigate any impact.”

Canex specializes in selling supplies to members of the Canadian Armed Forces and has stores in Halifax Regional Municipality.
