Daylight Saving Time kicks in

By Meghan Groff

Daylight Saving Time has kicked in bringing a little more sunshine to our evenings.

The time officially changed at 2 a.m. Sunday.

As you go around your home setting your clocks forward an hour, Halifax Regional Fire & Emergency's deputy chief Roy Hollett says it's also a good time to change the batteries in your smoke and carbon monoxide detectors.

“Take the time to look at it. There's a date on smoke detectors and carbon monoxide detectors. If the detector is more than 10 years old, go out and buy a replacement,” he said. “If the device is hardwired in, take the time to test it.”

Hollett said if you have any questions or need help buying a smoke detector, call 311.

It's also a good idea to clean your dryer vents to help prevent fires.
