A local district chief had some praise for his fellow firefighters after a fire at a Clayton Park apartment building early Tuesday.
Crews were called to Braeside Ln. just before 2 a.m. to a fire at a 36-unit building.
“Crews arrived and found the east end of the building was well-involved in flames,” explained district chief Pat Kline. “They got a fast knockdown on the main bulk of the fire, it did extend into the roof and was a little bit of extra work.
“The first couple of crews did an incredible job stopping it or we could have easily lost the whole building.”
Kline said tenants were evacuated and a Halifax Transit bus was brought in to provide shelter. There were no injuries reported, but Kline expected about 12 of the units wouldn't be livable for now and those tenants would be offered help from the Canadian Red Cross.
Kline didn't have any information on a cause and said investigators were just arriving on the scene around 5 a.m.
Crews were expected to begin the process of clearing the scene around that same time.
