The National Inquiry into Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women and Girls will be presenting it's final report on June 3rd, and a local woman is trying to help her friend who is travelling to hear the presentation.
The inquiry is releasing their final report in Gatineau, Quebec on Monday, and Vanessa Brooks will be in attendance. She's the sister of Tanya Brooks, a mother of five from Millbrook First Nation who was found murdered ten years ago. Her murder has never been solved.
Shelley Sprague is a friend of Vanessa Brooks, and she has set up a GoFundMe to help Vanessa cover some of the cost of trip. Sprague set a small target of $500 to help with expenses like meals, travel, and childcare.
“As a friend I can do as much as I can for her, because I really feel that it's important for her to go,” explains Sprague.
She hopes “there will be recommendations that we will all hear as Canadians as to what we can do to stop this violence from continuing to happen.”
Sprague adds it is an important trip for her friend Vanessa to make, and for those who wish to donate, they can visit this link.
