Porters Lake fire 30 per cent contained, 45 hectares in size

Officials with the Nova Scotia Department of Lands and Forestry say the brush fire in Porters Lake is still ongoing this morning.
As of 9 a.m. Sunday, the department says that the fire is 30 per cent contained and total 45 hectares in size.
The fire is still classed as “out of control” but Lands and Forestry officials are actively monitoring wind and weather to ensure the fire is managed as best as possible.
In addition to 30 Lands and Forestry crew, there are 25 Halifax Regional Fire and Emergency firefighters on scene, and two helicopters.
Halifax Search and Rescue teams as well as Eastern Shore Ground Search and Rescue teams are on the ground door-knocking to evacuate residents as the need arises.
At this time, 150 households in the West Porters Lake Road area remain evacuated and Highway 107 is still closed between exits 18 and 20.
