Progress continues on the $150 million Dartmouth General Hospital expansion.
The expansion is part of the overall QEII re-development which includes the expansion and renovations at the Halifax Infirmary, new and renovated operating rooms at Hants Community Hospital in Windsor, and a new community outpatient centre in Bayers Lake.
In February, the Department of Health said this work will allow services to be moved out of the aging Centennial and Victoria buildings on the Victoria General site to prepare for their eventual closure.
Stephen Harding, President & CEO of the Dartmouth General Hospital Foundation, told NEWS 95.7 they've received a number of community donations as part of a $13 million campaign.
“We're now up to about $11.2 million in donations from the community,” he said. “The province is matching donations from this campaign ten times over.”
Harding said he hopes this will help reduce wait-time issues across the province.
“Dartmouth is receiving eight new state-of-the-art operating rooms for surgeries,” said Harding.”Two dedicated to orthopedics. So having two dedicated operating centres for orthopedics will allow us to tackle those wait-time issues.”
According to Harding, they're hoping progress continues and the eight operating rooms will be in use by the end of the year.
