RCMP remind drivers to slow down or face serious consequences

HALIFAX – RCMP are once again reminding drivers to slow down or they can face serious consequences.

This comes after a pair of incidents on Tuesday evening, with one taking place shortly after 8 p.m. when two vehicles were caught racing each other at a high speed, travelling westbound on Highway 7 in Westphal.

Both drivers had their licence suspended for one week and vehicles seized, as both were charged with stunting under the province's Motor Vehicle Act.

RCMP say another vehicle was caught speeding around 11 p.m. along Beaver Bank Road. The vehicle was clocked at 115 km/h in a 50 km/h zone. The 17-year-old driver was also charge with stunting, and had his license suspended for seven days, in addition to having his vehicle seized.

As a result, Halifax District RCMP are reminding the public that speed is one of the major causes of serious injury and fatal collisions on our roads.

The fine for stunting in the province is $2,422.50.
