Shannon Park development moves forward

By Mark Hodgins

A new proposal could see Shannon Park transformed into a community.

The proposal is for a mixed-use community that would include some 3,000 residential units in a total of 23 city blocks. It would also include a transit terminal, shops and a waterfront park.

The plan was moved forward last week by the Harbour East-Marine Drive Community Council.

“It's been on the radar for a number of years,” councillor David Hendsbee told CityNews. “Right now it's a new development proposal, and we've had a lot of consultation from the community.”

Canada Lands, a federal crown corporation, is leading the project and will build infrastructure before the property is sold to a developer.

The plan will go to public hearings at a later date.
