By CityNews Halifax Staff

A winter storm taking aim at Nova Scotia has forced a number of closures and cancellations on Tuesday.

SCHOOLS:

All schools are closed in the Halifax Regional Centre for Education on Tuesday.

All other regional centres in the province have also cancelled classes for the day.

Metro CSAP schools are closed.

Dalhousie University's Halifax and Truro campuses are closed, and online classes are suspended.

University of King’s College is closed today. Delivery of courses (in-person and online) is suspended for the day.

Saint Mary's University says its campus is closed to in-person classes, but online learning will go ahead unless advised otherwise by individual professors.

MSVU's on-campus services (including the Library, Fitness Centre, Bookstore and Health Office) will not be available. Online classes will continue, technology permitting.

NSCC's metro campuses are closed for the day (Ivany, Aviation, IT and Akerley). Most other campuses throughout the province are also shut down.

TRANSPORTATION:

Halifax Regional Municipality will be enforcing the parking ban overnight into Wednesday.

The MacKay Bridge closed to heavy and high-sided vehicles, which is impacting some Halifax Transit routes.

The Macdonald Bridge sidewalk and bike lane are closed due to high winds.

Some Halifax Transit routes may still be on snow plans today.

Halifax Regional Police are reminding motorists to adjust their driving and be mindful of changing road conditions throughout the day and overnight, and to keep an eye out for pedestrians, especially at crosswalks and intersections.

Power outages may knock out some traffic lights. If you encounter one, those intersections are to be treated as all-way stops.

HEALTH CARE:

Today's pop-up COVID19 rapid testing site scheduled at the Spryfield Lions Rink and Recreation Centre is closed due to the weather.

Canadian Blood Services at 7071 Bayers Road in Halifax will be closed today. Donors can reschedule appointment through the GiveBlood app, by calling 1 888 2 DONATE (1-888-236-6283) or at blood.ca.

SERVICES:

Canada Post has issued a red delivery service alert for metro Halifax. This means delivery has been suspended for the day.

Due to weather, all branches and departments of Halifax Public Libraries will stay closed.

Curbside collection of garbage, organics, and recyclables in areas normally scheduled for pickup on Tuesday, Feb. 2, has been cancelled. Collection services will instead take place on Saturday, Feb. 6.

RECREATION:

Most HRM recreation facilities will be closed for the day. Haligonians are asked to contact their local recreation centre for the latest information.

The Halifax Public Gardens will remain closed today.

The Museum of Natural History and the Maritime Museum of the Atlantic will remain closed for the day.

BUSINESSES:

As of 1 p.m., the NSLCs on Barrington Street and in Porters Lake are closed due to power outages.

Due to the weather conditions or power outages, some businesses may be closed or have a delayed opening. It might be a good idea to call ahead.

GOVERNMENT:

All municipal offices in HRM will stay closed today.
