One woman dead, several others injured after crash in Antigonish County

RCMP in Antigonish County is investigating a collision that claimed the life of a 70-year-old woman.

According to RCMP, the incident occurred in Lochaber on Sunday at approximately 3:10 p.m.

Antigonish County District RCMP, fire, and EHS, responded to a report of a two-vehicle collision on Hwy. 7, near the 400 block where RCMP officers found that a black Toyota Rav4 was travelling north and a white GMC Terrain was travelling south when they collided head-on.

The passenger of the GMC, a 70-year-old Bickerton West woman, was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver, a 74-year-old Bickerton West man, suffered life-threatening injuries and was transported to hospital by LifeFlight.

The five occupants of the Toyota, including two children along with a 31-year-old man, a 25-year-old man, and a 30-year-old woman, all from Antigonish, suffered serious injuries and were sent to hospital.

A collision reconstructionist attended the scene and the investigation is ongoing.
