Storm closures and cancellations: Friday, Feb. 4, 2022

Here's how the weather is impacting Halifax today.

SCHOOLS: 

Halifax Regional Centre for Education schools are closed.

CSAP schools in the Halifax area are also closed.

The Saint Mary's University campus is closed. Faculty who wish to move classes online are encouraged to do so. The Homburg Centre and the Dauphinee Arena will also be closed for the entire day.

All Dalhousie campus and library locations are closed.

University of King's College is closed.

MSVU is closing campus for the day.

All NSCAD campuses are closed.

NSCC Metro campuses are closed for the day.

Schools are also closed in the Annapolis Valley, South Shore, Strait, Cape Breton – Victoria, and Chignecto Central regional education centres. Tri-County says schools are closed in Digby County.  

TRANSPORTATION:

There are power outages throughout the Halifax area, if you encounter an intersection with lights not working, treat that intersection as an all-way stop.

Halifax Transit service, including Access-A-Bus and ferries, has wrapped up for the day and won't resume until it's safe. 

If you're scheduled to fly out of Halifax Stanfield International Airport, it's a good idea to confirm your flight status with your airline before leaving and, if your flight is still scheduled to take off, give yourself plenty of time to get to the airport.

RECREATION:

All Halifax Public Libraries locations are closed.

The Halifax Public Gardens is closed.

Many municipal recreation facilities are closed for the day.

The Canada Games Centre will remain closed all day.

The Maritime Museum of the Atlantic is closed.

The Museum of Natural History is closed.

The Discovery Center is closed.

The Art Gallery of Nova Scotia is closed.

BUSINESSES:

Mic Mac Mall is closed.

Halifax Shopping Centre is closed. 

Several NSLC stores will delay opening or remaining closed today.

All East Coast Credit Union branches are closed.

Irving Shipbuilding has cancelled its night shift.

Some businesses may delaying opening or be staying closed today, it's best to call ahead or check websites/social media for specific details.

Some businesses that planned to open may be forced to close due to power outages.

HEALTH CARE:

Pop-up rapid testing event originally scheduled at the Halifax Central Library (5440 Spring Garden Rd, Halifax) has been cancelled.

Therapy dog services will not be available at the Dartmouth Mic Mac Mall Community Vaccination Clinic (39 Mic Mac Blvd.) this afternoon, and the clinic will be closing at 4 p.m.

Outreach vaccine clinics at North Woodside Community Centre – Multipurpose Room 1 (MPR1) and St. John Ambulance (Pfizer – pediatric clinic for kids ages 5-11) are cancelled due to weather/Halifax Transit cancelling service after 11 a.m..

SERVICES:

Canada Post has suspended mail delivery in Nova Scotia.

Curbside collection of garbage, organics, and recyclables has been cancelled Friday.

All Halifax Public Libraries locations are closed.

The warming centre at St. Matthew’s Church will be open from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. both Friday and Saturday.

The George Dixon Centre will open as a temporary emergency shelter from 9 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 4 to 9 a.m. on Saturday, Feb. 5. 

Worker's Compensation Board offices are closed Friday.

Canadian Red Cross offices across the province are closed.

UTILITIES:

Nova Scotia Power customers can report outages and get estimated restoration times online at outagemap.nspower.ca or by calling 1-877-428-6004. 

Urgent water, wastewater and stormwater infrastructure matters can be reported to Halifax Water's Customer Care Centre Emergency Line 24/7 at 902-420-9287.

GOVERNMENT:

HRM offices, including in-person Customer Service Centres, will be closed on Friday, Feb. 4. Employees who are able to work from home are being asked to do so.

Provincial government offices, including Access NS, will be closed for the day on Friday as well.

Stadacona, CSM Arsenal, Windsor Park, Willow Park and 12 Wing Shearwater will be closed for the day.
