What’s open and what’s closed on Remembrance Day

Nova Scotians will pause at the 11th hour on the 11th day of the 11th month to pay tribute to our veterans.
There will be several Remembrance Day ceremonies taking place throughout the Halifax-area Sunday.

Here's a look at what will be open and closed this weekend for Remembrance Day:
BUSINESSES
Many businesses are prohibited from opening in Nova Scotia on Nov. 11 under the province's Remembrance Day Act.
This means you can expect most stores and businesses to be shut down Sunday. This includes grocery stores, NSLCs and malls.
Most pharmacies will be open, however some may have reduced hours of operation Sunday.
Expect banks to be closed both Sunday and Monday.
Several other businesses may be closed or have reduced operating hours on Sunday and possibly Monday, it's best to call ahead.
TRANSPORTATION
Halifax Transit buses and ferries will be operating on holiday service on Remembrance Day. All veterans and military personnel, along with their accompanying family members can ride for free. The offer includes registered Access-A-Bus users.
Several Halifax Transit routes will need to be detoured for Remembrance Day ceremonies and processions.
SERVICES
HRM says curbside collection of garbage, organics and recyclables will go as scheduled on Monday.
All branches of the Halifax Public Libraries will be closed both Sunday and Monday. In addition, their Library database will be updated on Monday, which means there will be no access online accounts used to put items on hold from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Other E-Library resources may also be impacted.
Canada Post will not be collecting or delivering mail on Monday.
Most municipally-operated recreation facilities will be closed both Sunday and Monday. Residents are asked to call ahead
The Otter Lake Waste Management Facility will be open regular hours on Saturday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., however the Household Special Waste Depot will be closed.
The 311 Contact Centre will be operating on regular hours both Sunday and Monday, however the five Customer Service Centres that provide in-person access to municipal services and payments will be closed on Monday.
