A local hockey star continues to leave his mark on the National Hockey League.

Cole Harbour's Nathan MacKinnon reached a new milestone on Tuesday night, hitting 700 points in his NHL career.

An assist in the first period of Colorado's eventual win over the Washington Capitals clinched the milestone for the Avalanche centre.

MacKinnon has 255 goals and 445 assists in 673 games in 10 seasons, all with Colorado. According to NHL.com, only four active players reached 700 points in fewer games — Alex Ovechkin, Evgeni Malkin, Connor McDavid and fellow Cole Harbour native Sidney Crosby.

MacKinnon is also the first player from his draft year to reach 700 points.
