Police release photo of suspect in stabbing during Dalhousie homecoming party

Halifax Regional Police have released a photo of a suspect in a stabbing that occurred during a violent street party in the city's south end last fall.

Police have said between 3,000 and 4,000 people gathered on October 1 in the area of Larch, Preston and Jennings streets for the unsanctioned Dalhousie University homecoming bash.

At around 10:20 p.m. that night, a 19-year-old man with stab wounds approached officers in the area of Jennings and Larch streets.

He was taken to hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

HRP have previously said officers had to transport the victim in a police cruiser because paramedics couldn't reach the area.

Police now have a photo of a suspect.

He's described as a man with shoulder-length brown hair and tattoos on his right arm.

He had been wearing a dark shirt with a white pattern across the back, white pants and white sneakers.

Anyone with information or video from the area is asked to call 902-490-5020 or submit an anonymous tip through Crime Stoppers.

Last month, police announced two young men were facing criminal charges in relation to the party.

Officers also wrote a total of 122 tickets related to the event, 112 for Liquor Control Act violations and ten for noise by-law violations.

Another four people were arrested for public intoxication.

Police have said the party caused “significant safety hazards” and put a big strain on police and first responder resources.

They said some officers on the scene were punched, kicked, spit on and hit with projectiles.

In addition to the stabbing, there were fights, fireworks were set off — some directed at homes in the area — and a fire was set in the street using downed branches from Hurricane Fiona.
