Shotgun among items seized after car crashes into ditch

By Meghan Groff

A Waverley man is facing several charges after a car crash in Goffs Monday.

RCMP were called to Old Guysborough Rd. at around 9 p.m. after an Audi A3 ended up in a ditch.

A witness who stopped to help said the driver stuffed a firearm into a bag before asking for a ride to a spot with cell service.

The witness complied and then returned the man to the scene, where the driver retrieved a second bag from the crashed vehicle.

Responding officers searched both bags and say they seized over $2,000, cannabis, hash, a 12-gauge shotgun and ammunition.

Aaron Matthew Poole, 28, was arrested and is now facing the following charges:

  • Careless use of a firearm (two counts)
  • Possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose
  • Carrying a concealed weapon
  • Unauthorized possession of a firearm
  • Possession of a firearm while knowing its possession is unauthorized
  • Unauthorized possession in a motor vehicle
  • Possession of a prohibited or restricted firearm with ammunition
  • Possession contrary to an order (two counts)

He appeared in Dartmouth Provincial Court yesterday and Mounties say the investigation is ongoing.
