The Halifax Mooseheads team has new owners.

In an announcement Tuesday at the Nova Centre, Bobby Smith said, he's moving on from the QMJHL team after two decades at the helm.

Michigan businessman Sam Simon, along with his son Peter, are the new the majority owners.

“I'm really excited to see for the plans he has for this team and the way he's going to use his business acumen to move this franchise forward” said Smith. “Let's face it, after 20 years any good ideas I've had we've already put into place so it's time.”

“It's going to be an exciting time and I'm excited to see it.”

Simon said under his new ownership, fans will be the top priority.

“This is not my team. It’s the community team, so I want to make sure I will be a good steward for everyone here,” he said. “We're going to make sure we have a great experience for our fans.”

“I am going to be listening, I'm going to be learning and I'm going to do everything in my power to make sure you will see a huge difference. We will get better and we will win championships.”

Son Peter said when sitting in the stands at the Scotiabank Centre, it was easy to fall in love with both the city and the team.

“As we sat with the fans during the games, the passion, energy and excitement was contagious and something we wanted to be a part of,” he stated.

“We are thrilled for this journey together, and working with the community, fans and Mooseheads team to win more championships and have the best fan experience.”
