The Halifax Mooseheads picked up an impressive 8-3 win over the Moncton Wildcats on Tuesday.

Moncton struck first on a Vincent Labelle marker less than two minutes in the opening frame.

Mathieu Cataford answered back for the Herd, netting a pair of goals to put Halifax up 2-1 after 20 minutes.

Halifax got off to a quick start in the second period with James Swan lighting the lamp and Cataford picking up a hat-trick in the first few minutes.

Jordan Dumais added to their lead to make it 5-1 Mooseheads while Maxim Barbashev brought the Wildcats within three, late in the second period.

Cataford scored his fourth goal of the evening early in the final period to make it 6-2 Halifax.

Attilio Biasca and Brody Fournier extended the Herd's lead to 8-2 while Preston Lounsbury added one more for the Wildcats, but it wasn't enough as Halifax won it 8-3.

The Mooseheads are back in action on Friday when they welcome the Chicoutimi Saguenéens to the Scotiabank Centre.
