Popular nurse practitioner moves west

A popular nurse practitioner fired from her job in the Digby area has been scooped up by a Manitoba community.

Karen Snider came to Nova Scotia from B.C. to set up a practise and said she wanted tos tay. Residents were happy to have her and she was seeing about 1500 patients.

But she was fired in October by the area district health authority, and some residents believe it was because she publicly criticised health care cutbacks.

The health authority has never commented on her firing, except to say it wouldn’t have been over her “embarrassing” comments.

Community efforts to get her back failed and Nova Scotia Health Minister Maureen MacDonald refused to get involved, saying it was a local contract matter.

Now the Herald reports Snider is relocating to a clinic in Thompson, Manitoba.
