Weather system brings surprise snowfall

The weather system that brought us the cold snap has thrown in a little snow for good measure.

A few centimetres of snow fell overnight – just enough to cover your car and make the roads a little slippery in places.

Although the forecast called for only a chance of flurries, meterologist Richard Zurawski says any time you get cold temperatures and wind –  you get snow. He says we can expect more today.

“What’ll happen is the winds will gradually diminsh this evening and overnight,” he said. “It’ll be clear and cold and tomorrow it should be a very, very nice morning. The temperature will be as cold as it’s been, but without the wind it’ll feel a lot milder.”

Zurawski says the light snow can pack down and form ice on the roads, so drivers should take it easy on the morning commute.
