Halifax digs out from winter storm

Residents in HRM will be digging out from a large winter storm today, that dumped snow, freezing rain and rain on the region.

Meteorologist Richard Zurawski says Halifax received anywhere from 15 to 35 centimetres.

Zurawski says we also got about 5 centimetres of freezing rain and rain.

“That of course is making things treacherous out there because you’ve got a lot of liquid on the road which is freezing,” he said. “The road is below the freezing mark even though the air temperature is around 1 or 2 degrees.”

Zurawski says peak winds overnight reached 100 kilometres an hour.

Halifax police responded to several accidents due to the slippery roads but they say none were serious in nature.

Roads and highways still have some snow cover, so police are asking people to drive with caution.

The Halifax Stanfield International Airport experienced many flight delays and cancellations.

The airport is still experiencing some delays and cancellations, you can get up to date arrival and departure information on the airport’s website.
