Liberal leader in Halifax today

Federal Liberal leader Michael Ignatieff is making two stops in Metro today, to talk about what kind of country Canadians want on its 150th birthday, in 2017.
Ignatieff spent Sunday talking more about what kind of country Canadians have now, with a prime minister who prorogues parliament.
“Prime ministers serve at the pleasure of parliament, rather than parliament serving at the pleasure of prime ministers,” Ignatieff told reporters. “He’s got it completely reversed. It shows disrespect for democracy.”
Ignatieff will be at the Nova Scotia Community College’s Waterfront campus this morning. He visits Dalhousie’s Student Union Building this afternoon.
The Halifax visit comes on the heels of the launch of a series of attack ads going after the prime minister for hitting the pause button on parliament.
The Liberals’ radio, print and internet spots take a page from the Conservative playbook — trying to play on voters’ doubts about the prime minister.
In the past, the Conservatives have used the strategy to try to paint Ignatieff as “just visiting,” and Stephane Dion as, “not a leader.”
After his Halifax visit, Ignatieff says he and his MPs will be back on Parliament Hill January 25th, the date parliament was set to resume.
“We’re coming back to work,” Ignatieff said. “We’re going to have budget consultations, we’re going to run public forums and discussions. We’ll be on the Hill, earning our keep.”
