‘We can’t ask the darn question on your behalf’: Ignatieff

The man who wants to be prime minister sat down with a students in Dartmouth Monday morning.
Liberal leader Michael Ignatieff held an open mic forum with students from a variety of programs at Nova Scotia Community College’s waterfront campus.
One student asked, if Ignatieff thinks Canada has broken international treaties, over alleged torture of Afghan detainees.
“We don’t know the answer to that,” said Ignatieff.
“And I’ll tell you why we don’t know the answer to that. Because Stephen Harper shut down parliament so we can’t ask the darn question on your behalf.”
The answer was met with applause from the audience.
Ignatieff was quizzed by reporters about the Liberal’s new negative attack ads.
“We’re trying to ask in those ads the questions Canadians want answered, ‘why is he doing this?’,” he said.
Ignatieff says if he were prime minister, he wouldn’t prorogue parliament to get out of controversy.
The Liberal leader is on a tour of the Halifax’s university and college campuses.
