Second home targeted by arson on Timberlea street, RCMP say

For the second time, emergency officials were called to a residential street in Timberlea for what police are calling an arson.

Early Sunday, around 3:05 a.m., officers and fire services were called to a house fire in the 400 block of Marketway Lane, just off Timberlea Village Parkway and next door to The Links at Brunello golf course.

By the time responders arrived at the scene, the home was engulfed in flames.

RCMP believe the incident is linked to another arson and attempted arson incidents that happened early Sepember.

Police say that on Sept. 5, emergency services responded to a report of a Molotov cocktail being thrown at a home. When they arrived, the house was already fully overtaken by the fire. No injuries were reported as a result of the incident, though some buildings beside the fire saw minor damages.

Two days later, on Sept. 7, around 4:10 a.m., police say they again received reports about the same home, after getting calls about a suspicious person.

Through their investigation, officials learned that a man was seen leaving a residence with a cloth that was on fire. They added that the man then dropped the cloth and left the area in a vehicle.

In the updated release, officials also noted suspicious activity in the area like possible shots fired and a break and enter in August could be connected.

RCMP said after the Sept. 13 incident, a dark-coloured SUV was noticed leaving the property after the fire was set.

In response, police have increased their presence through marked and unmarked police cars patrolling the neighbourhood.
