Halifax reaches top third of most attractive cities

The grades are in and Halifax has finished in the top third of the class.
Halifax has been given a “B” grade, finishing 16th overall in a Conference Board of Canada report that looks at the overall attractiveness of the country’s 50 largest cities.
The report looks at 41 factors in seven categories which include things like the economy, health, housing and society.
The Conference Board of Canada’s Mario Lefebvre says Halifax scored highest in health, finishing sixth overall.
“Being the regional hub when it comes to healthcare services I think has played in Halifax’s favour,” said Lefebvre.
Halifax scored poorly in the society category, getting a “D” in percentage of foreign born population.
“It’s important because immigrants attract other immigrants,” Lefebvre offered.
Mayor Peter Kelly says immigration is on the city’s radar.
“We developed an overall immigrant attraction strategy,” said Kelly. “Now it’s time to upgrade that document.”
Calgary, Waterloo, and Ottawa received top marks. Around the Maritimes, St. John’s finished 6th, Moncton 31st, and Saint John, 49th, out of 50.
