MONCTON, NB – The mayor and council of the City of Moncton are extending condolences to the family of the late Sergeant Mark Gallagher who died in the Haiti earthquake.
Prior to joining the RCMP in 1998, Gallagher was an officer with the former Moncton city police force.
Deputy Mayor Merrill Henderson says Gallagher was a well-liked and well-respected individual in Moncton.
“Mark, I found, was a very friendly, good guy to work with… very sharp, very much a community person. So I certainly enjoyed my contacts with him.” said Henderson.
Meantime, Henderson says the City of Moncton has contacted the Red Cross and is prepared to open depots for supplies in the Haiti relief effort if needed.
But so far, he adds the agency is requesting cash donations only.
