Cabinet ministers face simulated emergency

Cabinet ministers avoided a fictitious fire in downtown Halifax this week.
Ministers didn’t know until the fictitious fire started early Thursday morning that they’d be holding their weekly meeting at a “secure location.”
“There are a number of locations around HRM that have been identified that people could meet, not only cabinet but other groups as well,” explained Emergency Management Minister Ramona Jennex.
Jennex says everyone was informed of the mock disaster – had to call in – and were then given the secret location.
She says there were a few glitches.
“Not everyone’s e-mail addresses or phone numbers were appropriate,” she said.
“They didn’t attach to the right person so we’re just making sure all of those glitches were worked out.”
This was the first time cabinet ministers have had a planned emergency exercise, but it’s been in the business contingency plan for a while.
