Roads slippery, some schools closed after snowfall

Conditions are expected to clear later today, but the morning commute could still pose a problem for some drivers around metro.
Snow and ice that fell overnight is sticking on some streets and commuters report that highways in particular are in bad shape, with traffic crawling on some.
Dartmouth streets are also snow-covered and slippery.
Halifax police Sgt. Mike Spearns says drivers need to clear their car – including the roof – and play it safe.
“You have to assess the route you’re taking and make sure that you give your vehicle lots of time to warm up and de-ice,” he said. “Although the work crews have been out…drive according to the conditions. If everyone else ahead of you is driving at 80 km an hour in the 100 zone, slow down.”
Although schools around the province were closed on Wednesday, most are open today with the exception of schools in Annapolis and Kings counties. The Annapolis Valley Regional School Board also reports work sites and the regional office won’t open until 10 a.m. Officials report getting up to 15 cm of snow, with more on the way.
The brunt of the weather system hit in Saint John, where the snowfall reached 20 cm. City police reported a total of 27 traffic accidents throughout the day – none of them serious.
