Transit system serving multiple N.S. counties receiving millions

The provincial government is pairing with the federal government to help boost public transportation in Kings, Annapolis and Digby counties.
The press release from the Nova Scotia government notes that the investment is $10 million in total and the bulk of the money is coming from the federal government. Tidal Transit is the agency that runs public buses in the area of the province.
It’s expected to use the money to purchase five regular buses and one electric, along with three vehicle charges and allowing upgrades to its maintenance facility.
“Not everyone in Kings County owns a car, and not everyone can drive. Community transit gets so many people where they need to go: school, work, medical appointments or just out to see friends and family,” said John Lohr, Minister of Finance and Treasury Board and MLA for Kings North, said.
Lohr noted that the upgrades will help boost transit between the communities.
This comes as the provincial government is looking into options for how to bring more public transportation between rural communities and Halifax Regional Municipality.
According to a memo from the province released in April, it is seeking partners for an “inter-municipal transit service” to connect people from Truro, Wolfville and Bridgewater with reliable transportation in and out of Halifax. A request for information was issued to gauge the interest and ability to operate such a system within 100 kilometres of the provincial capital.
This project is linked to a blueprint the province outlined last year that looks at public movement over the next two decades. The first-of-its-kind plan in Atlantic Canada aims to look into the infrastructure to increase the movement of goods and people.
